Copper
Creek Golf Club ~ Copper Mountain, Colorado
18 hole regulation. Par 70
The Copper Creek Club – and everything else
at Copper Mountain – is being revamped by the new owners (Intrawest,
owner/developer of golf and ski resorts in Canada and the US). Intrawest doesn’t skimp on their projects – this
one will cost them $500 million. If you haven’t been to Copper lately, your
next visit will be a pleasant surprise.
The Copper Creek course is the highest
championship course in North
America. It was designed by
Pete and Perry Dye, with more recent improvements by Jim Engh… and ongoing
improvements by the Intrawest professionals. The course is set in a small
valley so is smaller than most, so accuracy is the key here, more than
distance. The valley is surrounded by high mountain peaks, snowcapped year
round. The course includes pine forests, and historic reminders of its mining
past.
Directions: 75 miles west of Denver. Take 1-70 to the Copper Mountain exit No. 195, 1st right after the overpass
takes you into the Copper Mountain Resort. Follow the signs to Copper Creek
Golf Club.
